  • Songs That You Will Never Hear On The Radio!

Remember the radio? You know, that thing that blurts out advertisements at you every five minutes? Maybe you know it as that thing you listen to when your iPod's battery runs out. Lord knows you haven't touched a CD in years. Yeah, no one ever listens to it all that much anymore. I do occasionally. Enough to know that there's still a lot of good music out there that doesn't make the mainstream. If there's one thing about music I can consider myself an expert in, it's mainstream music.

From music from the 90's, to the amazing covers on YouTube, to the movie soundtracks of today, your local disk jockey has been keeping the goods from you. So, I'd like to dip into my secret stash of audio pleasure and share with you a few...

SONGS THAT YOU WILL NEVER HEAR ON THE RADIO!

First up we have one of my favorite YouTube musicians, Zsos. This brother and sister duo don't update very often, but when they do, it's always good stuff. Justin has a really great ear for music. His arrangements on the guitar are pretty incredible, especially when it comes to the covers. He's got a way of making it his own. As for Zandi, man does that girl have a voice on her! She can sing like it's nobodies business. Just an incredible voice!

This song debuted at the beginning of the new millennium. Looper never really hit it big on the airwaves, but a couple of their songs, including this, have been used in a few movies. Most notably Vanilla Sky. The band makes enough money off the licensing of their music to the film industry that they can afford to give away their music on their website. Too bad that hasn't caught on.

I don't know much about this guy and his group other than he was pretty influential to Rock and Roll. How influential? Apparently he had invented the power chord. With out that chord, you wouldn't have 85% of the rock bands that came out since the 70's. That's pretty influential. This song's also made the big screen a few times. Off the top of my head, I can only recall it being in Independence Day and Twelve Monkeys. The song itself is a perfect example of the bluesy rock that has influenced so many modern day musicians.

If you've ever seen the movie Once, you already know how great this song is. The movie is a musical, without the musical. You just have to see it. As for the song, there's a pretty intense mood that comes with it and kind of lingers when the song's over. One of the better songs to come from the movie. Marketa Irglova was 19 at the time and won tons of awards for the original soundtrack she recorded with Glen Hansard.

Back in 2003, the Moving Units were making a name for themselves. Their self titled EP and followup album, Dangerous Dreams, made some noise in the underground scene online. They never made it big and as far as I know, never got any radio play. They had a real distinct sound in their first album that I think they lost in their later albums. There's a real live band feel and energy to their music. In their later albums, they went for a more produced, studio sound.

What do you get when you cross hit songs with a swanky lounge act? Richard Cheese! If you enjoy like of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, you'll like this guy's sound. This one I can't really explain. Just listen to it. I can't get enough of his covers.
